There’s very little that’s official about Captain G R Gopinath, the former chairman of the erstwhile Air Deccan and also the pioneer of low-cost airline business in India. We hesitated to spell out his full name because it sounded so official. So it’s either Gopi or Captain as everybody calls him.

Emirates brings the super jumbo to India

Emirates Airline flew in the first Airbus A-380 super jumbo with 517 passengers on a scheduled commercial operation into India Thursday, and was welcomed at the spanking new Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport through arching jets of water in an aviation industry salute.

Air traffic surges 21% in June

Jet Airways in code share pact with Kenya Airways

3 Indian airlines to need Rs 50,000 crore in 3 years to buy planes

Three major domestic carriers — Air India, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways — will together require around $10-12 billion (Rs 47,000-Rs 560,000 crore) over the next two-three years to fund their aircraft acquisition plans, an aviation think tank has said.

India far from having hub for airlines

Despite having privately managed world-class airports in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai, and the world’s eighth largest terminal building at New Delhi’s international airport set to go online on 14 July, India is still far from getting an international airport hub for carriers, says industry experts.

Sun TV founder to buy into SpiceJet; make open offer

The founder of Sun TV Kalanithi Maran and his unlisted aviation firm Kal Airways have agreed to buy 37.7 per cent in budget airline SpiceJet Ltd andwill make an open offer for a further 20 per cent, SpiceJet said.

Domestic airlines carry 47.85 lakh passengers in May
